unable to update avast

Hi,

I have recently been infected by the VBS:EXEDROPPER-gen and RAMNIT virus. when i run the avast antivirus it appears that it catches the virus and moves it to the chest. all is then ok.

When i reboot for some reason the virus comes back, if i try to update my avast it gives an error message “error connecting to the server” and also when i try and go to the avast homepage it seems to block this page.

Coincidentally if I open the processes in Task Manager i see an iexplore.exe process running which if i kill then try the avast homepage i have no problem getting on?

can anyone help, i’m fast running out of ideas!!!

Have you tried this ?

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50.1 http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
always run update so you have latest database before you scan
click on the remove selected button to quarantine anything found

if anything is found then post the scan log here

@damoc1
Be sure to do the scan with the Malwarebytes program as proposed by Pondus and post the scan log here.

And then do the following.

Download DDS and save it to your Desktop from here:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/dds.scr

Double click DDS to run the tool.

* When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
     1. DDS.txt
     2. Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop. Post DDS.txt back to topic.

i have downloaded and ran mbytes and also dr web scanner, the dr web found 2 back doors and 3 auto runners which must have been kicking in when booting up the pc, and mbytes found a couple of things, all were dealt woth successfully and all viruses (fingers crossed) seem to have gone thanks to this…

but i am still unable to update avast…??
still getting “error connection to server” when trying to update?

any thoughts?
