I am unable to do update definitions. I’m still running XP home, and recently updated Avast free AV program to 11.2.2262. Never had this problem before, but when I try to do definition updates, the message “Engine and Definitions: Already up to date- current version” and “Connection established” appears. I repaired, modified, uninstalled, and reinstalled everything etc. The updates worked one time, then nothing. Any help would be appreciated. I changed settings from auto update to manual several times, and left auto update on for several hours with no updates yet. I have auto update set to once every four hours. thanks
Do you recive stream updates? … avast get stream updates evry 5-15 minutes
does avast give a error message? … if not evrything should be OK
Thanks for responding so quickly. Yes, I have streaming updates enabled. There haven’t been any error messages.
When the manual VPS update reports you are up to date, what is the VPS (Virus Definitions) version that you have displayed ?
Check using about avast (from the tray icon) or run a manual update again.
Latest is 160509-0 according to a manual update on my system.
I tried a manual update again, after 6-7 hours. It worked. My VPS now shows 160509-0. Thanks so much for the help.
You’re welcome.
My previous VPS showed 160508-1
I believe that I missed out on some versions.
I don’t think that you actually missed anything, on average there are two VPS updates per day (previously there were could have been more). So 160508-1 is the second VPS update of the 8th May 2016, 160508-0 being the first.
Now that there are streaming updates the need for more frequent VPS updates are lessened. The VPS essentially contains all of the streaming updated released since the last VPS update. Once the VPS consolidation is done earlier streaming updates are removed.
