Unable to Update from Free to Pro

Good morning Avast! Team and Community Members,

I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem:

I recently purchased a one year, three computer license for Avast 5 Pro. Reading the upgrade/installation instructions I noted that you can update the program simply by entering your license file and it will download the necessary components.

I did so and I still do not have the Pro features and it still states that it is the Free Version up at the top of the UI. The computer has been restarted since I have done the upgrade, and I have tried inserting it again and still no luck. I got some screen shot to assist you guys:

Here is my “About” Information:

Here is the registration window. I applied my “License.avastlic” file here by clicking the button:

I receive this prompt and choose OK like normal:

I receive the prompt stating the inserting the license was successful at the program will now update:

The program went through its download and installation process and requested a restart when the download and installation was complete. I restarted and and when I boot up the UI to take a look, I am still greeted by this information:

Just to double check, I when to the program update again and clicked the button and received:

Does anyone have any ideas on what may be happening here? Should I uninstall Avast and reinstall it with the version linked in my Order Receipt email (setup_ais.exe file)?

Thanks in advance!

-Chris

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
  7. Check and post the results.

Thanks for the quick reply.

That was what I was going to attempt anyway if I couldn’t get an answer. I’ll try this out in a few minutes and let you know.

Regards,

-Chris

That did the trick.

I wonder why it wouldn’t work from the Free version though! May want to look into that!

Thanks for the help!
