Unable to update - says I'm on version 7.?

Hi guys,

Lately when Avast tries to run it says The package is broken… Read a bit about this here, but maybe this is a new twist.

In Avast’s Manual Update screen -

down the bottom of the two update tabs - update program its says I am on engine 6.0.1396 and the latest version is 6.0.1401;

However on the top screen (update engine and pattern files) it reports I am on engine and definitions 120221-1 but Program 7.0.1396.

So somehow part of avast internet security thinks I’m on a whole new version 7 - so I presume its stopped looking for any version 6 updates.

Suggestions welcome!

Matt

This may be a problem of the servers, announcing the existence of a new version with mixed numbers. But if you always used a stable version of avast, it shouldn’t happen at all anyway. If you ever installed a beta version, then it might.

Either avoid updating yet (since it is still in beta), or uninstall avast, clean the installation with http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility under Windows Safe Mode and install the latest stable version of avast.

Since the new stable version is only a couple of days away, I would suggest waiting, and then clean up your current version before installing the new stable one when it is released. (Note: save a copy of your avast license file before uninstalling.)
