Is there any way to edit Avast settings to allow me to view my Internet camera at work from home? I can get to the page OK, but I can’t view video unless I disable On-Access Scanner. I have tried to search the forums for an answer on this and can’t seem to find it. The camera is a D-Link DSC-3220. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Well avast shouldn’t have any impact on accessing your web camera so there must be some thing conflicting.
What is your firewall ?
Do you have to log on (user name and password or use a VPN, etc.) to be able to view the web camera at work ?
You shouldn’t have to completely disable on-access protection as that leaves you vulnerable and there are only two possible providers where any conflict might effect internet access; they are Network Shield or Web Shield.
I doubt it is the Network Shield but try terminating this provider first and try to access your web camera. If no difference, terminate the Web Shield (not pause) and try to connect again. If this works then enable the Network Shield again and see if it still works.
Thanks for the quick reply to my problem! First I stopped Network shield, that did not help. Next I stopped Web shield, that worked! But now I am unable to resume Network shield or Web shield! The option to resume is “grayed” out! More help please! Thanks!
OK, I figured out how to turn the Network shield back on and left the Web shield off. The camera works fine. Is there a way to ad or filter the IP address of the camera or some other setting to make this work without completely turning off Web shield?
OK, got it figured out went to the exceptions on the Web shield and added the URL and we are in business! Thanks so much for the help!
no problem, welcome to the forums.
Though by excluding the url, you are avoiding the problem rather than finding the true cause.
That is why I asked the questions.
You’ve find the solution.
But, anyway, WebShield shouldn’t be blocking anything, it just scans, and if your camera traffic is by HTML protocol and it’s clean, it should work… I hate mysteries.

Hi newnanpc,
I would really like to find out the actual cause of this problem. Would it be possible to connect to your webcam from here and test why it does not work with WebShield? It would really help us, since this exact WebCam model is currently unavailable for purchase (here in Prague).
Thanks a lot,
Lukas.
I’m having the exact same problem with my dlink DCS920 wireless internet camera. When I stop on-access protection it starts working. I can even start the on-access protection once the camera has started and the camera will keep working.
Found that if I start on-access protection and just terminate web-shield it works. Pausing web-shield doesn’t work. What would be the correct way to write the url ‘http://192.168.0.189/Jview.htm’ in exceptions, haven’t figured that out yet.
Write the address “192.168.0.189” - without the quotes - into the “Ignored addresses” on “Basic” tab in WebShield configuration. Do not use “Exceptions” tab this will work better.
Lukas.
Thanks Lukas for the quick response. That worked. Now for finding the cause of the problem. Looks like that other guy never got back to you. The thread looks somewhat old.
