Unblock a firewalled printer

Printer works when the Avast Firewall is suspended, otherwise not.

There are no Application rules under Firewall. But under System rules Allow Windows Printer sharing is enabled. In Windows Let Windows manage my default printer is On.

How to allow printing?

try turn off portscan

Avast UI → Protection → Firewall → Settings → Advanced → Uncheck “Enable automatic port scan detection”

Yes, and I also discovered that Avast had, without my sayso, set my home connection as public and therefore subject to blocks. Setting to Private under Protection > Firewall restored what should be the default.

If running Win 10 and using a laptop, then the default Windows Firewall setting is set to Public. This is due to a newer feature where roaming wi-fi connections are enabled, called Wi-Fi Sense.
