avast keeps blocking my Alexa toolbar. this toolbar is important for my work how do i tell avast
to unblock it?
even if i press the “No action” button my toolbar is blocked.

Try adding the detected file to the exclusion list of avast! Standard Shield 
You’ll find the exclusion list in : Resident Protection Window → Standard Shield → Settings → Advanced → Add (to the exclusion list)
Alexa had a chequered past being considered adware, personally I wouldn’t use it, there are probably more tools to do what it does without a chequered past than you can shake a stick at.
You could also check the offending/suspect file at: VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. You can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.

DavidR - alexa gives some estimition about sites traffic and currently there isn’t a better tool.

Can anyone please give me the alexa file names to ad to the avast program so it shouldn’t detect it?
i have tried everything and its not working.
Well the file that is being detected by avast I would suggest is the one you should be excluding, though personally I would be looking for something other than Alexa.
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
Or reboot and try to start the toolbar and se what file is blocked.
