The chest in Avast 5 makes it difficult to distinguish between back-upped system files and infected files.
The look of Avast 4.8 with different categories was much clearer.
Please improve with new version.
Thank you.
When the latest program update is done I believe there will be no sight og any backed up system files, these apparently were carried froward from the 4.8 chest.
But now there is only one area in the chest and from the new version you shouldn’t see these backup system files.
Hi DavidR,
does that mean, that the system files in my virus chest have been taken from the 4.8 installation? The transfer date of these files makes that most likely.
If so, did the new 5.0 installation back up the system files anew and doesn’t show them any more?
And if so, can I delete the system files shown in the virus chest?
avast 5.0.499
- system files imported to the virus chest after upgrade from v4.8 are now removed

Hi Pondus,
thanks for the response.

Yes they were.
I don’t know if 5.0 actually backs these up but doesn’t display them in the chest.
Yes, that shouldn’t be an issue.
Welcome to the forums.
In avast 5, the Virus Chest is indeed what it says - intended for malware only (we still allow the users to [manually] put there any files, but not very many people do that :)).
Now when you install avast 5 over v4.x, we import all the files from the v4.8 Virus Chest to v5. We didn’t realize that would also import the three system files that avast 4.x was storing in the chest. With the upcoming v5 program update (due soon and currently available in beta), we’re now removing these files to avoid any confusion.
