Underhand 60% Price Increase for Avast Internet Security

Having used Avast for more than 10 years, I was gobsmacked to see that Avast/Nexway (through Auto Renewal) had taken £40 from my bank account for the annual renewal of my Avast License when the cost last year (and previous to that) was £25. I contacted Avast and 2 weeks later (Yeah, 2 weeks later!) did I receive a snotty email which was obviously a standard scripted load of garbage going on about the Auto Renewal system. Thankfully I did get my refund but even so, I would appreciate an explanation from Avast to explain why there has been such a massive increase in the cost and why I cannot find any information anywhere explaining this cost increase. If anyone out there can help explain this or even better, someone at Avast explaining this, I would be grateful.

I have recommended Avast to countless amounts of people as I work in IT but I’m sorry Avast - I will never recommend your products again and I’ve now removed Avast from all my devices…

Very disgraceful and underhanded way to do business… Massive fail.

I wholeheartedly agree! I was shocked to see my account had been debited £49.99 (I would never have bought the product at that price) and it took me over a month to get a refund. Not impressed.

It isn’t so much that you got a price increase, but that you had been getting a good discount for some time. As far as I’m aware the normal price was/is 39.99, usually shown in US dollars and converted to £ and as we all know that is another bone of contention.

That said I though all renewals got a discount on the normal price, so I think you got stuffed there.

Personally I’m using avast free and I have never been a fan of auto renewal no matter what software, when It comes time to renew I renew only if I feel it is meeting my needs and is reasonably priced.

Exactly… It’s the price increase without any explanation that should be explained in proper. :-\

Thank You for your reply @DavidR.

I feel it’s a massive slap in the face for loyal, reliable users of Avast, and the huge increase in price whether for me or anyone even new to Avast is just simply ridiculous and needs explaining… Auto Renewal is fine if you react to it within the given time, but just like any contract or insurance policy you should be informed of the changes to policy and obviously changes in cost…

TBH - I know I’m clutching at strings as I deal with Tech companies and sometimes getting certain info is fruitless ::slight_smile:

Why should they explain something ?
It is just the normal price they charged you, there was no price increase at all.
Just because you had a discount doesn’t mean you will get it for the rest of your life.

It is always a good idea to “shop around” and not just extend a existing subscription.
Often there are nice discounts for “new” customers.

The best trick I know for saving money is to NOT auto renew.
When your term expires, Uninstall Avast and take the option to switch to the FREE version.
Once you’re on the free version. you’ll see all kinds of offers to upgrade to the paid version at a very cheap price.
Just don’t tell anyone where you heard this.

Ha, won’t tell a sole

I too get some good offers as a free user, but it has everything that I need. It is without doubt the biggest competition for Avast Internet Security or Premier.

I agree, for most users the free version is just fine. Too bad they don’t install Sandbox in the free version. That can be a worthwhile thing to have in certain cases.

There really have to be differences or who would purchase the other paid versions.
