A flash drive of mine contained suspicious, can’t-be-deleted files with file names such as “o ve.to” and “maybe.app”, some of them came in the form of folders, others were classified as “system files”, and the rest had no file extensions. Their file sizes are, on average, 1 GB - 1.8 GB each, yet they aren’t taking up space in the flash drive.
I tried to scan these files using avast to no avail. As I tried to move them to the chest, an error pops up:
The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
I also tried upload the file to VirusTotal yet that didn’t work either.
I’ve reformatted the flash drive since so it may already be clean, but said drive has already been inserted into my laptop. Although the laptop shows no signs of infection of any kind, there might be an infected file hiding in some undetectable folder somewhere.
Now my question is… considering that these files may be harmful, is there another way to delete it aside from a complete wipe-out (like what a “reformat” does to a flash drive)?
