I am using the free version of Avast, and I just scheduled a quick scan using the procedure at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=3796. I did this as administrator, but I expect to be logged in using a non-admin account for 999% of my usage. I’d appreciate any advice on the following:
What exactly happens if the scan finds something?
Given that the scheduled scan is an Administrator account’s task, will whatever is suppose to happen still happen if I’m logged into my usual non-admin account?
The post you mention is hardly relevant for avast! 5 - the functionality of ashQuick.exe has changed.
Anyway, avast! 5 contains scan scheduler even in the free version, so it’s kinda pointless to use similar “hacks”.
Er…that’s interesting. I had tried to find a scheduling tab or page by browsing the GUI. Couldn’t find it. Now that I see your mention of this native capability, I searched the Help. There is a Help page on Scheduling, but it doesn’t say how to navigate to it. Am I missing something?
You can set a schedule for a particular scan by going to Scan Computer in the AvastUI and clicking on Settings. It’s the bottom item on the left there.
We might have different versions. I found it by going to ScanComputer->CreateCustomScan->Scheduling. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, though.
