[b]Hi

I just updated to (because I thought the warning pop up said I had to), Avast Free ver 5.0.677.

Gotta say NOT loving it!!

It seems confusing compared to the old one. >:(

And I HATE!!! The new tray Icon…
Its red and orange and looks like its a big time warning or something!

Its driving me nuts seeing it out of the corner of my eye and instinctively tensing for trouble!

And no I can’t just turn it off or whatever.
I need to see the icon so I know it is protecting me when I am doing things like downloading software and etc.

So… Please…Does anyone know how I can get the blue Icon back???

Also… hating that they have changed the nice soothing male voice to a female voice in the “Virus Database updated” thing.

Anyone know how I can get that back as well??!?

I know these things may seem silly to most, but they are important to me!

I spend A LOT of time online and to be continually bothered by the icon is a realllll issue!

You will get used to it, far better av than the 4 version. I dont know how it bother’s you! if im looking at the central part of the screen which is normaly where you focus i cant even see the icon in the corner.

You can also hide the Task Bar until you need to see it.

Like with all new changes, for some people it takes time to get used to it and for others it is accepted a little easier. You will get used to it. I am also sensitive to colors and changes on the screen and I am online a lot, but I got used to it very quickly. For me, I am more concerned with the performance of Avast, which I am very happy with.

As for the sound, you can disable the Avast sound or change it to a pirate (I don’t think you will like it if you do not like the woman’s voice).

I believe there is a way to get the voice of 4.0, but I do not know how to do it. Perhaps someone can post a way to get the 4.0 man’s voice for this OP. Thank you.

You just have to accept the orange icon. No way of changing that. You can however get male voice back if you switch to avast! Pirate Talk language :smiley:

Isn’t there a way to get the male 4.0 voice back. I don’t recall how to do it. But perhaps that may help this OP.

The new tray icon won’t change… It’s there since last year on beta versions.
You’ll get used to it.

You can change, like RejZor said, the sounds and voices. avast is very configurable.

You could right click the taskbar and click properties and click customize where it says Notification area and hide the avast icon and click hide.

I hate the ugly orange tray icon, also.

But I like avast! 5 for it’s performance, so I put up with it. ::slight_smile:

I’ve been “test driving” the new AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 64bit.

It’s very good. :slight_smile:

I’m keeping avast! 5 on my XP sp3 32bit computer.

But I’m seriously considering keeping AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2011 64bit

on my Windows 7 64bit laptop. It has a very nice tray icon. :wink:

To me the blue “a” ball icon was a nice soothing tray icon.

I have to admit that the burnt orange icon is not typical for indicating everything is good to go. Something with some green or blue would seem to be more natural and intuitive. When there is a notice in the icon the yellow is not much different in contrast than the icon itself. I know it’s nit-picky, but I don’t care for it either. I’d rather have the AV work right than look good–but I’d like to have both if possible.

Have you read the HELP file? It provides clear and simple instructions for all of the settings you need. Look at the top right corner of the avast screen for " ? HELP CENTER "
