There is a program DDS_Setup.exe that is available to download (no fee nor registration required) from here:
h t t p ://w w w.bridge-captain.com/downloadDD.html
(remove the spaces)
The download link is called “Download DD Solver”.
This is an installer program.
It has been updated regularly and is currently on version 11.17c at the time of writing this message.
Usually Avast has a problem with this site/program, and flags up all sorts of warning messages about the risks etc. I am happy with that. Personally I trust the program (my risk, for sure) and I override the warnings.
With the latest version 11.17c, Avast prompts no warning messages nor does it allow the program to run. The only visible effect of running the program is that the mouse pointer turns into an hourglass.
If I disable Avast, then it installs fine. If I then enable avast then the installed program runs fine.
I just think that it is unhelpful that it is only by chance that I identified that Avast was the cause of the initial problem with the installer running. Let me have the warning messages back that I can override and I am happy.
What OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast ?
What VPS version ?
As what is/was avast detecting it ?
Is there anything in one of the avast log files about this ?
Hello and thank you for responding.
Problem is now solved.
My Avast program was out of date. I received no prompts that it was out of date but in light of Eddy’s response I thought to check manually. Not good. Now on version 11 point something and the installer runs. @Simion, interesting point, but I had no problem downloading the installer file, which I then ran from my local disk so probably a side issue. I shall report it back anyway, thanks.
Eddy I don’t know what some of those TLAs stand for, so forgive my not responding in full. But as the issue is solved I guess that is OK.
Is there a way of flagging a thread as solved? There is in most other forums that I use but cannot see it here.
OS = Operating System
SP = Service Pack
VPS = avast’s virus database (the definitions)
Simion,
you are wrong. Securi doesn’t say there is a problem with the host.
It says that page can not be found (404), which is correct.
The actual download page is download.html
Jack made it downloadDD.html
I’m not sure what happened but the page I went to was bridge-captain.com/downloadDD.html, and that is what I entered at Sucuri which resulted in a 404 error. My browser found the page but Sucuri couldn’t, apparently. Anyway, the OP’s problem is solved and that’s what matters.
