Unidentified virus..HELP

:frowning: Hey everyone…
I have a lil problem which is that my system automatically initiates a shutdown when Im connected to my cable. As soon as I disconnect the cable from my comp everythings fine. So I have no clue what kind of a virus this is but its pretty “well behaved” cos it gives me an entire minute before the computer is shutdown and I get a notification saying “Windows NT has initiated a shutdown, please save all your work and close all applications” lol… oh and I know its not a fault in my OS cos it never happends when I dont have my cable connected but only happens when I am connected and occurs sporadically. Running a full system scan has yeilded no results at all.
My config is as follows:
Win XP Professional (with SP1)
P4 - running Avast latest home edition with all the virus updates
Zone Alarm Free Latest edition
Browsers I commonly use: Netscape 7.1
So if anyone knows something please help me out.
Thanks beforehand.

Difficult to say, you could post a hijackthis log: http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/
Download: http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/

or/and use an onlinescanner: http://www.bul-online.de/av/onlinescan.shtml (RAV/TREND)

yoooo thanks dude…i’m checkin it out now and thanks for the help…ill let u know if it works…if i never return u know that i did something terribly wrong and ended up in jail in cuba lol

RAV Antivirus online scanner has produced no results…
Now awaiting hijackthis log reply on a forum where I posted the log file…

Will my problem ever be solved??!!
Will the evil viruses suceed in shutting down my comp again??!!
Will I ever eat doritos again??!!

For the answers stay tuned for another exciting episode of “Unidentified Virus” (tatataaaa ) :o

Well, those “shutdowns” are usually a consequence of being infected by Blaster worm (or similar - such as Nachi - that use the RPC exploit).
You should install the necessary Windows patch - otherwise, you’ll get infected again and again. Try searching the Microsoft site - I’m sure you won’t miss the “Blaster” patch.

I have used the Hijackthis program and had to post my log on their site and have been given advice to mail the administrator on the forum a file called “msne.exe” however that file cannot be attatched via e-mail cos it says:
The following file has not been attached:
msne.exe (269k)
File infected
This file can not be cleaned. Please run a virus scan on your computer.
Running a virus scan achieves nothing. What should I do?
::slight_smile:

Put the file in a password-protected Zipfile, e.g. with Winzip and then send the zip-file it to said admin and to
virus (at) asw (dot) cz

avast doesn’t detect this ?

and APPLY all Windowsupdates; details for the most important patches and how to prevent the shutdown of the system can be found everywhere & via a board search for:

BLAST

if you want more detailed help, you should of course post the hijackthis-log HERE

are you sure it was “msne.exe” and not “msnet.exe” ?
