Uninstall 4.8 now computer will not load windows

I was cleaning up one of my computers and wanted to load new Avast. Uninstalled 4.8 and after rebooting Windows will not go past the load screen. Progress bar keeps moving, that is all. I tried to do a repair reload of Windows (XP Pro) and still nothing. Even put drive in another computer and loaded the backup registry. Still nothing. Never seen anything this stubborn. Really trying to not do a fresh load of Windows.

If you press F8 in earlier time of the boot, can you boot in Safe Mode?

Thank but I tried that first. Neither “Safe Mode”, “Use Last Known Configuration that worked”, or a repair re-install of Windows helped.

If you can boot in Safe Mode,

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
