Uninstall and install error

I had recently had a bad virus and a tech friend couldn’t get it off but was able to stop the lagging and constant popups. I believe they might have partitioned the HD to accomodate a new OS. So I tried to uninstall avast Home Edition and it gives me a error message with no code or explanation. So I tried a new download of Home Edition and this is the error message, the AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error.

What is this? And is there a solution?

Download the latest version of avast if you didn’t save the previous download, http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

  1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.
  2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.
  3. install the latest version, reboot.

Do you have any other antivirus in this computer? Had in the past?

no…only avast.

So, like David said, did you try an installation from the scratch?
