Uninstall Avast Free Antivirus

I have a Windows 10 Home 64-bit installation on my PC. I got Avast Free Antivirus when I updated CCleaner. I don’t want Avast Free Antivirus. I use a paid for copy of Bitdefender. I tried to uninstall Avast Free Antivirus using Settings/Control Panel/Programs and Features but it didn’t work. So, how do I uninstall a program(Avast Free Antivirus) which was installed on my PC without my express permission? Looking forward to you answer. Bye.

You say it didn’t work, but what didn’t work, any errors displayed, etc. ?

You can try the avast uninstall utility as mentioned - http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility.

Reported on the developers channel. :frowning:

Hello,

I installed Avast Free Antivirus 2019 on my laptop. My computer was slow. So, I decided to uninstall a lot of programs to try to speed it up. I uninstalled Avast Free Antivirus and the uninstall was supposedly successful.

However, I came across Avast folders and files left on my computer. I downloaded the Uninstall Utility for Avast Antivirus, Avast Clear, and ran it in safe mode as it said to do. I deleted many of the remaining files and folders but there were still 24 files left in my C:\Windows\WinSxS\ folder.

For these, I used Avast Clear again and browsed the computer to tell it to delete the remaining files and folders. Unfortunately, these would not delete even in safe mode with Avast Clear. How do I delete these?

Thank you for your help.

How do I delete these?
Manually

Hi,

Even manually doesn’t uninstall all of the files even in safe mode. I tried to delete them through Windows file explorer then I tried Avast Clear. I tried both in safe mode. I still have 24 files left in my C:\Windows\WinSxS\ folder.

Now what?

Thanks

That’s strange. I have Avast installed but don’t have any files/Folder in that Directory related to Avast that I can see.

Just checked out of curiosity. No Avast files that I can see either.
Maybe a screenshot of those files mentioned

Since there don’t appear to be any Avast files in that folder for those that use the product,
I’m also wondering how old those files are. Could be from some ancient version that was not totally removed.

I have just searched for “avast” in WinSxS and found several folders with “avast” included as part of the folder name.

What version of Windows and, what version of Avast ???

@Bob. I have Win10 1809, Avast Free 19.5.2378 (build 19.5.4444.497).
My post was just result of me being inquisitive. Wheras no obvious folders files named “avast…blahblahblah”, when search done there are some folders are detected with “…avast…” mentioned somewhere in their name. Also some similar in subfolder WinSxS/Manifests.
Have you tried the same search on your PC?
It is not bothering me. Should it?

I didn’t search, I opened the folder and looked. I’ve also looked in Manifest and see nothing about Avast in there.

I have also a problem with avast free antivirus.
I have tried to uninstall it with the avast removal tool but their are still files remaining.
Windows defender firewall is still under the control of Avast.
How do I uninstall these files?

The free version of Avast doesn’t have a firewall and certainly doesn’t control the Windows firewall.
Any files remaining after using the removal tool can be removed manually. You can also simply leave them.
They don’t interfere with any other programs.

What’s the problem with Avast Free antivirus? Are you able to enter Safe Mode?
