Dear All
Im new here and i had Norton antivirus 2005 and i got so upset that i just uninstall it and i download Avast 4.6 but the problem now is that everytime that i boot my XP a message pops up and said that Avast as found NAV running and it disable some online scanner i forgot the message but how do i fix this problem? I uninstall so i dont know what going on. ???

Using add/remove is not enough to remove NAV

Thanks, i did it now i see all 7 on-access scanners. But do i put it in “High” sensitivity on all of them?

It’s up to you to decide. You can try both, If you are satisfied in your PC speed on “High” and you are a bit paranoid ;D, like me, ;D so set it to “high”. Personally I’ve started to use normal settings, as I saw that my PC boots up a few seconds faster than on “high” resident protection settings.

The most critical will be Standard Shield. Maybe you can let it into ‘Normal’ and the others, better than just set Normal or High, click Customize and make your own best settings.
I’d like your forum name: avast forevel.
Will you own this promisse? 8)

 AvastForever :

To get ALL of Norton OFF your computer, I would suggest
you use your computer's "Search" feature, selecting
"All files and folders" & using the search "term" "Norton"
and "Symantec" and deleting everything possible it finds.
Might want to consider using a SAFE registry cleaner to
remove any "left-over" entries there !?

Thanks everyone. And yes i would keep that promisse, i left NAV for too many problems, this is only antivirus i feel safe with. Its alot of features. I like it. I keep it on “high”.

this is one of the reasons i hate norton it is a complete fight to get it off of your system but even then there will probobly be a little of the program still on your system. And it is a complete resource hog. >:(

You’ve discovered our secret 8)

So, it’s not a secret anymore, isn’t it? :-\ ;D

I guess i did. ;D

Ssshhhh, don’t pass away ;D

I believe that link applies to NAV 2003 and earlier. The following link might be more applicable for someone trying to remove NAV 2005:

i have removed all of Norton antivirus using add and remove.

Sure. This is the first step. Are you sure all trash left behind from Symantec have gone away? ::slight_smile: ::slight_smile:

Can you check the contents of these Windows Registry keys in your system?
