Uninstallation on Vista

Problem encountered after uninstalling Avast Pro from Vista, cannot now connect to wireless network.

This morning informed that trial period for Avast Pro had expired.
Working from the Avast screen, I uninstalled Avast.
Post uninstallation I can no longer attach to my wireless network*.

Lastnight I was attached and working fine. The only change on this machine has been the Avast removal.

Can someone advise which setting might have been changed by this uninstallation, and the actions I need to carry out to fix the problem greatfully received(!).

  • wireless network is ‘seen’ but DHCP settings are not being applied.

Which firewall do you use?
Any other antivirus program is installed?
avast shouldn’t block any attempt to connect as it is an antivirus and not a firewall. Even more, when you uninstall it completelly.

Firewall in use is Windows firewall (I have tried temporarily disabling this to see if that resolved things - it didn’t).

No other AV installed (yet).

That was my starting point, but its the only thing to have changed on the machine (and hence my post).

Please, use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
Boot.
Check and post the results.

Hi,

Uninstall utility appeared to run ok, but did not restored my connection.

What is the error that the Windows netwook repair tool show?
Right clicking the network icon on system tray you’ll see this option.

Hi,

All is now working, unfortunately I cannot say what fixed the problem.

As a work-around I was using the laptop with manually configured IP etc.
After reading your last post I then re-set to DHCP, and shut-down the laptop.
Two hours later, re-booting, network connection worked.

Thanks for your assistance.

You’re welcome. Feel free to come back any time you need help.
