Uninstalled Internet security Win7 now computer will not boot/registry corrupt

Please Help…I uninstalled Avast Internet security due to issues with shields blocking internet access. I was going to reinstall however, After I selected reboot to finish the uninstall process, the computer would not boot. I have run the repair utility with no luck. I have even run chkdsk /f/r to no avail. Has anyone run into this problem or know of any potential fixes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you boot in safe mode ?
Are you getting a error ?

Will not even boot into safe mode. Tried running “sfc /scannow”, it halts and says their is a repair in process, please reboot and try again. I was able to get chkdsk /f/r to run but that was no help. when I launch repair from media disc it craps out, can’t find any issues. Report shows registry corrupt. All I did was uninstall Avast Home security and when that was complete, it asked for a reboot to finish removing files. computer was dead from there. Any thoughts? I don’t even have a restore point to go back too, nothing is listed.

Scroll down to “If you cannot Boot the computer” and follow the instructions.

Followup, went to the thread you suggested. Followed instructions, burned CD inserted and waited for it to finish loading. after 7-10 minutes I ended up with the BSOD. I removed the drive and replaced the REG files with REGBAK files. Still did not work, While i was able I ran SFC /SCANNOW on the drive while it was slaved. In the end, I had to recover data and reinstall the OS. What a pain. Still don’t know why uninstalling Avast would have corrupted the registry.

Who knows what has caused it.
It can even be a real small hick-up in the power supply to your house that was not noticeable to humans.

If I understand you correctly the OS was on a drive and you performed the clean installation on another drive.
After that you connected the “old” drive as slave (only possible with IDE drives) and ran sfc on it.
If that is so, sfc will do nothing on the old drive since it checks file systems on the main installation (the OS that is in use).

If the registry backups where from a date prior to the uninstallation of avast while the system was still booting/working,
placing them back should have worked.
If it didn’t work it was not likely a registry corruption, but a file corruption.

Anyway, now that you got things up and running again I suggest you create a image of the working system/drive.
Just in case something goes wrong.
It is a lot faster/easier to put back a image then to install everything again.
