I just noticed that you can easily uninstall avast! even if its settings are password protected. It will ask for password when you want to change settings or when you want to disable any of the modules, but it will not to that when you want to unistall avast!.
That kinda defeats the purpose of password from user and from malware point of view.
Can this be fixed in next avast! program update so it’ll ask you for password during uninstall process (if password was set).
This is a job for the self-defense module I suppose… ???
How exactly will that prevent an user from removing avast! ? Maybe that works for actual malware but often the worst malware are users themself…
Well, RejZoR, if an user does not realize that he/she is uninstalling the antivirus, well, he/she deserves… deserves… don’t you think?
It could well be an anomaly (e.g. if uninstallation is possible by “User”, I have never tried) but I’m not sure there is a better alternative. As you acknowledge in your reply to Tech, the self-defense module relies on the alerted user to block suspicious activity, avast! developers presupposing that a user with “Administrator” privileges is not a threat.
There must always be a way of overriding a lost or forgotten password. If the uninstaller is password protected then wouldn’t a truly malicious user just escalate to the removal tool? ???
