every time i uninstall avast on my laptop running vista it causes certain program to not function properly. For example after uninstall avast 4.8 pro i cannot load aim (it disapears shortly after loading) and i cannot load my facebook home page, ITT login page and i cannot click on certain types of buttons within IE8 or IE7 such as javascript buttons.
this has been happening for months and i decided to finially give up and ask on here. I’ve tried uninstalling it with awsclear in safemode and normally but every time i do it screws up IE8, Aim, tuneup utilities and prolly other programs too.
any suggestions?
Well, seems an interaction with 1) firewall and/or 2) another antivirus installed in the computer (or in the past).
We need more info to continue guessing.
hhmm i was hoping this was something you see all the time. Ok well the reason i have another anti-virus install because i cant get avast re-installed or anything. Of course i’ve uninstalled it every way i could with no other anti virus installed and windows firewall disabled. But every time i do it screws up Vista real bad. what other information can i get for you?
Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
Use (run) the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. You can skip the boot time scanning. Boot.
If you want (need) to uninstall avast, then repeat the uninstall procedures 3-4. Check and post the results.
Why do you need to uninstall avast?
ok when i try to re-install the latest version of avast i get the error message a setiface error has occured: 536870929 please re-install avast. lol. now if i go into safe mode and uninstall it using aws clear its just going screw up aim and IE again. I want to un-install it because one day it just stopped working. I could not turn on the protection or run a scan. the only thing i can do is get into the program settings. I cannot uninstall it from the control pannel i get an erorr message trying to do that too. I cannot seem to re-install it from safe mode either.
Have you tried running the repair utility? Go to Control Panel and to your Add/Remove Programs section and click Remove for Avast, but instead of clicking uninstall, under the options choices, click Repair. That will sometimes fix missing or damaged components.
I cannot repair it from the control pannel because it gives me an error. I have uninstalled avast and reinstalled it several times but the problems with IE AIM ect dont go away. I keep having to use a system restore and the earliest one i have avast is already installed lol. when i do the system restore avast wont run a scan or enable protection and cannot be uninstalled normally. it has to be done by safe mode, when i remove from safe mode it has to be done with aws clear. when i run that and reboot avast is gone but windows is all messed up.
Windows Installer service is not running. It’s not possible to install programs in Safe Mode.
This could be the problem and this is why I’ve told you about the installation from the scratch.
System Restore does not work (all the times) when you’re “moving back” installation of firewall, antivirus, etc. A lot of things are left behind.
avast uninstall shouldn’t change anything on AIM or IE.
Did you have any other antivirus in the past in this computer?
