Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can help me to get MS Outlook XP to work properly when uninstalling Avast 4 on my bosses computer. It’s a p3 1GHz but with a crappy H.P. motherboard with 128MB (2x64) RAM which can’t be upgraded, running XP pro SP2 and any virusscanner slows it down virtually 50%. Thus feasability for a viruscanner has become an issue because of the degradation of performance and their knowledge of not opening email attachments.
Anyways, when uninstalling Avast, Outlook keeps coming up with an error trying to send mail, receiving mail is fine however. When reinstalling Avast, mail sends fine again. So I need to know if there’s some registry hook or dll which is not being removed when uninstalling Avast so I can get his computer running more efficiently without a virusscanner at least until he decides to upgrade. I’m not sure exactly which version of avast I installed but it was the one from about a year ago. Thanks.
P.S: drats, must’ve had caps lock on when registering.
Tech, tASSLEHOFF isn’t trying to get avast plug-in to work, but to find why Outlook isn’t working, after he uninstalled avast. If it were in the disabled items then I doubt there would be a problem, however if it were still active it might cause a problem as avast isn’t present.
However, still waiting on an answer from tASSLEHOFF to my question on what the error message was.
Come to think of it Outlook may have been opened when I uninstalled it however after I’ve tested uninstalling it with Office 2003 and Office XP on my computer, it uninstalled fine even with Outlook XP opened! I guess I’ll have to check if that add-in Dave mentioned is still present next week on the bosses home computer after another uninstall attempt and if it is I’ll try disabling it and see what happens. Thanks for the heads up and quick replies everyone.
