when i tried to uninstall avast! it was uninstalled successfully but now, i discovered that there are avast system files remaining in C://program files/alwil software and avast is able to start but is not able to catch a virus,
i want to eliminate all avast! system files, and reinstall again avast! but i cannot delete avast!
If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it.
(Note: Be careful! Thecontent of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
That error message could be an indication that your system is infected with a variant of beagle, that can disable AVs. This can sometimes be hidden by a rootkit.
What happens when you try to run other executable files ?
Also see, anti-rootkit, detection, removal & protection http://www.antirootkit.com/software/index.htm. Try these as they are some of the more efficient and user friendly anti-rootkit tools.
I agree.
Did you get your original question resolved and Avast re-installed OK?
I’d like to recommend MBAM http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php as a demand antispyware scanner, if you don’t already have it. Sort of like Spybot, or AdAware but a lot more up to date.
i guess i dont have a virus i only tried to uninstall avast! to install Zone Alarm as a firewall only, and then reinstall avast!
the problem started when i tried to install zone alarm, i discovered avast! on the taskbar… it was disabled, and a running process called ashdisp.exe i tried to kill the process, but…
-the self protection of avast was enabled!!!
-all the services was running
-no virus were detected by avast!
-no response from any avast! module
so i tried the aswclear.exe and my problems were resolved, i succesfully reinstalled avast! with zone alarm and im very happy with my avast! running
the problem was…
i didn´t know the existence of aswclear.exe so thanks to show me the way
If you ever need to reinstall again, the self protection can be disabled.
-Right click the tray icon,
-Select “program settings”
-Select “troubleshooting”
-Tick the box that says “disable avast! self defense module”
What I’d do then (although I don’t know if it’s needed) is to stop on access protection, then uninstall it (after disconnecting from the net, of course,) then run the tool if needed.
