Uninstalling Mail Shield

  1. Are these the correct steps: Add/Remove Programs, Avast Anti-Virus, Change, Modify, Uncheck ‘Mail Shield,’ then reboot computer when directed?

  2. Should Mail Shield be disabled then uninstalled or can it be uninstalled while enabled?

  3. After rebooting, I went back into Modify to ensure that ‘Mail Shield’ was unchecked and it was but, when I X’ed out, it stated ‘If interrupted, Avast will not be updated and may become corrupted-Do you want to quit setup’

I clicked yes and it stated ‘There was an error while changing the product configuration’- Will Avast now be corrupted from doing this?

Avast 2015: Change, add, or remove individual program components >> https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB96#artTitle

Good-It was uninstalled correctly then.

  1. Should Mail Shield be disabled BEFORE it is uninstalled or can it be uninstalled WHILE still enabled?

  2. After rebooting, I went back into MODIFY to ensure that ‘Mail Shield’ option was unchecked and it was but, when I X’ed out, it stated ‘If interrupted, Avast will not be updated and may become corrupted-Do you want to quit setup’

I clicked yes and it stated ‘There was an error while changing the product configuration’

Will Avast now be corrupted from doing this or is it safe to X out if I just want to ‘check’ the component settings?

does avast give any error messages or does it work normaly

Avast works fine and the Mail Shield has been removed.

I just NEED to know if I should have disabled Mail Shield BEFORE uninstalling it or can it be uninstalled WHILE still enabled?

Then you have answered the question yourselfe
I just NEED to know if I should have disabled Mail Shield BEFORE uninstalling it or can it be uninstalled WHILE still enabled?
does not matter and it is already removed

After removing the Mail Shield, I went back into the ‘Components Settings’ section to check my ‘Configuration checkmarks settings’ and then I ‘X’ out.

When I did it, it stated:

‘If interrupted, Avast will not be updated and may become corrupted-Do you want to quit setup’; I clicked yes and it stated ‘There was an error while changing the product configuration.’

Is it safe to X out without making changes?

If you stop the update then any changes wouldn’t have been applied. When you simply go in to check what installed and then exit, nothing has changed, so no problem.

Avast is just warning having entered an update state, it doesn’t know what you may have changed until you apply the changes, e.g. successful completion and normal closure of the update process, clicking the Change button. Exit earlier and you get the warning.

DavidR-There was NO update in progress!

Why isn’t anyone ‘reading’ my messages!?

After I updated Mail Shield by REMOVING it, I went BACK into the Configuration Settings just to CHECK and the Mail Shield was unchecked.

Since I was NOT making ANY changes, I X’ed out (There is NO Abort option) and that corruption warning message was displayed.

‘Is it safe to X out of the Configuration Settings’ page after checking my settings or should I only go in there if I intend to make CHANGES?’

You did have an Update in progress - you initiated it by going into the Modify process as you stated in your first post.

We are reading your posts, unfortunately you aren’t reading or don’t understand our answers.

David-READ CAREFULLY.

The Mail Shield feature was REMOVED and that is now HISTORY.

When I went BACK into Config Settings to ‘CHECK,’ (NOT update so there was no update in progress) ‘TO CHECK,’ there was no Abort option so I X’ed out-Why was that ‘corruption’ warning message displayed?

Going into the configuration screen is considered a modification, if you X out of the screen you will get the update corruption message as you didn’t continue with the modification.

Please read carefully what information has been given to you, the correct information has all been placed before you, what DavidR posted in reply 7 was quite comprehendible.

Fine-Since going into the configuration screen is considered a modification, should ‘checking’ the settings be avoided or is it safe to do without corrupting any Avast cpmponents?

There is no need to go in there continually but it wont corrupt anything to do so.

Thank you, dear-Direct answer!
