Uninstalling software kills windows.

hi,
Upon reading several posts within the avast forum i notice that people are trying different software out etc.
Notably the firewalls,im presuming this occurs within an virtual environment ?
Ive been told that continually installing and uninstalling firewall and AV software can harm your pc and quickly kill a windows installation.
I personally have virtualbox box installed which is running linux ubuntu OS.so unless i get a windows OS running in a virtual environment am i not allowed to try different things out and see which one i prefer.Am i to choose a firewall off the cuff without first installing and trying first hand.?
Im quite a newbie with windows .so is installing and uninstalling a serious problem.?
Thanks. :-[

Always best to have a system image made before installing any major programs in windows, if theres a problem or you simply dont like it then its quick to just install the last made image and you’ll be left with no remnants of your tinkering

I don’t see why “continually installing and uninstalling firewall and AV software can harm your pc and quickly kill a windows installation.”

If done properly there should be no remnants and no adverse effect.

Same here. Making changes in msconfig however, can lead to all sorts of problems. Especially if you aren’t computer or MS Windows savvy.
