Heya guys. Well, I have a problem now. I wanted to do a reinstallation of Spybot S&D and I tried reinstallin over old installation. Guess what … My old installation was assigned to a different folder (I think by me, and not when I installed it originally). Now, I used the uninstaller to try and uninstall, where I don’t think it got rid of my old installation. Right now, I’ll see what I can do after a reboot. Wish me luck …
EDIT:
The assigned folder for the old Spybot installation was c:/program files/ spybot- search & destroy. The assigned folder supposed to be -->spybot - & destroy. Thought that would help.
Thanks for reply, Tech. Well, this is what I am going to do (I’m still updating stuff, so I didn’t restart my PC yet):
I tried to install spybot over my old installation —> turns out that I changed the folder like with spybot - … to spybot - … manually (not within the installer) —> uninstalled the one with the “correct” folder —> changed the original spybot folder from spybot- … to spybot - … —> and I reinstalled the app into that folder —> finally uninstalled and I am now waiting for a restart.
EDIT:
For Tech: You just read my mind on installing the new Beta version. But after consideration, I will stay with the stable version install 1.5 when PepiMK and co. decides 1.5 is ready. Anyway, I don’t truly like beta software, along with trialware, shareware, and especially (obviously) malware … Its called beta for a reason, and I’m fine with waiting …
EDIT 2:
Oh, forgot to mention … The reason why I was reinstalling was that there was no spybot uninstaller in the Windows Add & Remove option … But there was on the spybot- …etc… folder. Now I checked, and its gone … So I’m waiting for an uninstall.
Okay, so I restarted. The spybot - …etc… folder did not empty out its contents … So I guess if I’m going to do a new install, I deleted the folder (was that a good thing to do ??), displaying no confirmation on -if you delete this, some programs may not be able to function properly- box … Now, I have installed spybot once again (1.4, stable, can’t wait for 1.5), and everything seems to be in order.
Now, I’m a bit weary about remnants of the folder in the registry. I hope EasyCleaner and CCleaner will help me out on cleaning.
No problems… ok to delete remains of an old installation.
Glad it works 8)
I don’t think so… these programs aren’t prepared for a full Registry clean.
Try Wise Registry Cleaner (http://www.wisecleaner.com/download.html). Backup your registry first… better safe than sorry. But the program works very well and deep.
