For 3 weeks now I have a pop up telling me that my free anti virus is about to go out of date yet when I first clicked it to download my new free Avast thinking it was genuine - it did not download and it kept requesting I buy a new one, I became concerned that it was not a genuine Avast request as I felt they just wanted my card details and every day as I turn on my computer my Avast Anri virus comes on and says it is updated yet I cannot get rid of this pop up each day about 5 times a day it comes up
Can anyone help me remove it.
Im a grandma and not too technically minded so please make it simple.
Thankyou
Sheetlah
It is a fake/rogue security application that is just displaying fake alerts to scared enough to do what it says.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it and report the findings (it should product a log file).
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (MBAM), On-Demand only in free version http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe, right click on the link and select Save As or Save File (As depending on your browser), save it to a location where you can find it easily later. - 2. SUPERantispyware (SAS). On-Demand only in free version.
Don’t worry about reported tracking cookies they are a minor issue and not one of security, allow SAS to deal with them though. - See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie.
The first one is specialised in these rogue applications, it was originally called RogueRemover, so it may be able to find the process behind the alerts, etc.
