Hello I keep getting unknown error! skin is not complete when I try and scan. I have deleted this version and uploaded it again. The first scan went well, but second the next time I ran a scan it happened again. I am running windows XP 2003 and have two anti spyware programs "SuperAntiSpyware and Orbit Security 360. Any suggestions :-\
Re one of the antimalwares you have, do you mean Iobit security 360?
Is the OS XP (and which service pack, please) or Windows 2003?
When you say “I have deleted this version”, what exactly do you mean by that? (Please post the steps you took.)
Try a repair of your Avast, via the control panel “add/remove programs”, select Avast, then Chnge, then repair. Should take about a minute, maybe two.
What firewall do you use?
Hi Targ57

Hello Targ57,
Re one of the antimalwares I have is Iobit security 360, not Orbit sorry about that so it’s not rogue software Pondus. The OS is Microsoft Windows XP professional Version 2002 Service pack 3. What I ment by deleteing this version was that I went on to add or remove programs and deleted avast then reinstalled it with a new licence key. I then tried the repair route via the control panel “add/remove programs” this did not work. I am using windows firewall. I have managed to run a scan by using Avast! Simple user interface.
Try a full reinstall form scratch. I think you have been using a rather out of date version, as you would not have been easily able to uninstall the current version using the steps you describe.
1 -Download the Avast uninstall utility from here.
2 -Download the full installer file (the English one is 36.99MB) from just below the words “free registration” here.
3 -Disconnect from the internet.
4 -Right click the Avast system tray icon (bottom right), select “program settings” then “troubleshooting”. Tick the box that says “disable self protection” (If you are unable to do this proceed to step 6.
5 - go to control panel add/remove programs and uninstall Avast.
6 - Reboot into safe mode.
7 - Run the Uninstall Utility
8 - Reboot into normal, install Avast from the installer file you have downloaded. Go through the setup prompts. If you elect to have it do the boot scan, allow at least an hour.
9 - reconnect to the net. Get updates. Register the installation.
10- All should be good. Let us know.
