Unknown error

Applicatin cannot load skin. Function “usiGetSkin” failed. Read more about his problem in FAQ… Keeps coming up after starting avast4. It does the initial memore scan but when trying to load the dock it gives me this error. Could this be a virus? I recentry updated a web player and I am now getting these weird popups telling me I have spyware and i have to download their program to get rid of it. I also get advertisements along with this anti-spyaware pop up. Could this be a virus attacking avast4?

P.S. I have run a boot time scan and it didn’t find anything.

About the “usigetskin failed” issue, if the repair does not solve it:
You will have to register ACTSKIN4.OCX
Follow the instructions:

Select START > RUN…
Enter the following command:
If you have Windows NT or 2000:
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows 95, 98 or ME:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows XP/Vista:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows XP/Vista x64:
C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX

Press OK (or Enter).
A message saying that the file was successfully registered should appear…

Welcome to the forums, legoman2121.

Please follow Tech’s suggestion for the “usigetskin failed” issue.

You most likely have a rogue antispyware program on your computer. I suggest that first you download “Rogue Remover Free” from the link below. Run it and see if that helps.

Please post again to let us know the results.

Yes. This worked thank youl. However a red negative sign now appears in front of the Avast4 icon and when I attempted to click on it, it stated the resident scanner was set to off. I click on the start resident scanner button and it gives me a warning saying that the operation could not be completed. I downloaded the RogueRemover and it did not detect anything. Thanks for all the help but it still seems to have not helped. Let me know what I can do. Thanks.

Was this after a reboot?

And please tell us what the pop-up says the anti-spyware program is.

Also tell us what “web player” you updated.

I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the last version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.
