Im having a major problem with my dads computer.
from what i know he was updating adobe flash, it got to 100% but did not complete, thats when our internet went out because of a problem with our service provider. since then. his cpu usage spikes from 20 to 100% he cannot end adobe flash in task manager. but he can end other programs. he cannot uninstall adobe reader and just a few minutes ago when he tried uninstalling something else. he tried uninstalling other adobe things but it wouldnt allow it. he has a 4 core processor (intell) 4 gig of ram. he is unable to run programs and can only do so in safe mode. system restore doesn’t help at all. he’s running windows 7 home srvc pack one build 7601.
any help would be appreciated.
new info. he tried uninstalling adobe again and it says error while uninstalling adobe. it may not be allowed by your administrator
Are you logged in as the administrator of that computer?
thats when our internet went out because of a problem with our service provider
have you got your internet back? try this:
Restart your computer
When your computer is booting press F8
Select Safe Mode
Wait for windows to load
logon to your computer
go to add or remove programs in control panel by
clicking start
Control panel
programs and features
Select flash player
and click uninstall at top
Reboot and then try download flash again
link to flash:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
hope this works
we can go on the internet. its just that we think adobe is using all the memory and we cant start any programs
try what i have posted above! this will unistall flash player, your flash player may have been corrupted when your internet disconected, as it failed to download.
we’ve done that already. unfortunatly i cannot uninstall it because it will not bring up an uninstaller (possibly because it is very slow) whats weird is that we are able to use firefox now and its fast for loading things. but doing other things on the computer is very very slow or doesnt load at all
also, in task manager, when trying to see processes from all users, it freezes, but the program still looks like its running. ex. seeing proccess end and start
you could try the adobe flashplayer uninstaller program from adobe here
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
I dont believe it is a flash player issue anymore. its all of adobe i think because i cant uninstall any of it without the computer freezing. in safe mode. it wont allow us to uninstall
How savvy is your dad with the PC? Because there have been plenty of people I know that have gone to a page and seen “you must update/install Flash to view this, click here to update”, then they go ahead and do that and get a malicious flash player installed. So ask him how exactly he went about “updating adobe flash”, since the circumstances+symptoms of this make me think it is possibly an infection, rather than a borked update.
extremely savvy. it was an on-startup update from the legit program itself. he had it set to notify him when updates were available. he says it was not from a site
extremely savvy when it comes to knowing what not to click and so on.
