I found a strange profile when I tried to configure the Outlook settings on my PC.
I have tried to customise the Outlook/Exchange Inbound Mail settings so infected mails go to a particular folder.
My problem is I have an unknown profile which I cannot change or delete.
the Profile name is ûpw|E)þ
and there is a password
I cannot get rid of this profile and it is definitely NOT one I have created.
Can anyone offer any suggestions. I am worried my email has been hijacked.
:-\
I don’t have a particular solution, but, anyway, I suggest:
Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3.
Clean your temporary files.
Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on.
Use SUPERantispyware and/or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications . I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster .
Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care .
Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector .

I have run everything and all appears clean BUT
I even uninstalled Avast and downloaded the latest version from the website and started again.
When I go to Avast > On Access Protection Control > Outlook /Exchange > Customize > Inbound Mail > move it to the following folder > Browse
I now get this profile name ûæwÃMT—
Here is the hijack this log

I haver ead through the link about The strange case of Dr.Rootkit and Mr.Adware and checked for any signs such as the dll of a particular size of the registry entry etc and do not have nay instances mentioned.
Most of the rootkit removal tools I see ask me to name the file to remove. How do I do this if I do not know what I am looking for?
Is my only option to rebuild from scratch?

I have cleaned the registry, removed all files relating to avast and rebooted and reinstalled after running ccleaner sevferal times.
Even on a clean build I get a strange profile in my Avast settings? Is this a feature of Avast
I have now seen it on another 2 machines.
When I go to Avast > On Access Protection Control > Outlook /Exchange > Customize > Inbound Mail > move it to the following folder > Browse
I now get this profile name û¿u[ð
Is this just a feature of Avast?

I have run every known antispy and registry cleaner etc but nothing is detected.
I guess I have to rebuild totally
It is interesting because I found a profile on some one else’s PC when I went to their place last night.
I wish I knew what this mystery spyware is and what it is taking from my computer.
I am very curious about what it is doing.
