Unknown Skin Error & Cannot Run Avast! 4.8

If I try to run Avast! 4.8 Home Edition on my computer, I now get this message:

[b]Unknown Error[/b].

Skin is not complete. Look at the following description:
Skin is not loaded properly.

I tried to download a new skin, but that did not download / work, and I am receiving the same Error message.

I have Windows XP as my Operating System.

How can I fix this so I can run Avast???

I looked at this section of the forum, and back on page 10, someone had a similar problem, and they said something about repairing Avast.

I don’t know how to do that.

I went to Control Panel > Add/ Remove programs but did not see anything about repairing Avast.

How do you repair Avast???

Someone also said, as an alternative, to run Avast! without a skin; but I enjoy using the Skins, so I would only want to do that as a last resort.

Avast repair

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

I followed the instructions you gave me, and repaired Avast!; I also updated Avast!

However, I am still receiving the same Error message:

Just a little history about my computer; I had a rootkit a few months back, and got rid of it with Combofix (see my posts here at the Avast! Forum), and it seems that may have messed up Avast! 4.8 from properly running.
