unkown virus? - Fixed

This is the first time I have a virus on my PC that I can´t remove.

My girl was on the computer last Thursday when the system shutdown by itself… I noticed this so I re-started on safe mode and ran the Avast!.. it cleaned the system, I deleted all the temp, disable the “restore” option and reboot back up again.

Once the system load I tried to run again the Avast! but it didn´t ran… I hit the MS Antispyware, and it didn´t worked. I downloaded the Avast! cleaner and had to change the name & extension to make it run… but it didn´t found anything… I already tried Norton and Mcafee stinger, but not a single one is finding the problem… The files run Ok under safe mode but not on normal boot up.

The only file I see on the task manager that I don´t know is a file called COMRCONF.EXE.

Need help, I have just downloaded Hijackthis and I will post the log ASAP.

Please I need help.

Emiliano

Hi emiliano_cabrera,

Your not running both Norton Anti-virus and Avast Anti-virus on that computer are you?, if so you need to disable one of them to prevent them from conflicting with each other.

Definitely remove these:

O4 - HKCU..\RunOnce: [NSWCfg.exe] “C:\Archivos de programa\Norton SystemWorks\NSWCfg.exe”
O9 - Extra button: Microsoft AntiSpyware helper - {CE6016E3-E8DE-43ED-A863-FE6D6527BE8F} - (no file) (HKCU)

Then you need to download LSPfix: http://www.cexx.org/LSPFix.exe

Then when you open LSPfix make sure you have ‘flsmngr.dll’ (may be more then one) in the Remove section, then check the ‘I know what im doing box’, then click Finish.

Then delete these files: (if there)

C:\WINDOWS\System32ahtun.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32comrconf.exe

Then reboot your machine

Then run any Spyware scanners you have. (Spybot/ad-aware etc), you may have to reinstall Microsoft Anti-Spyware as it seems damaged.

Then make sure avast is up to date, then run a boot time scan with avast set to scan inside archives (Open avast > Menu (top left hand corner) > Boot Time Scan)

Then remove any Temp files you have, with System Works or ccleaner (http://www.filehippo.com/download/ncAOCJr-Om3Lq35Rh3QQoQ2/download.html)

Then post back whether your problem is solved, and a new hijackthis log so we can confirm your clean.

Hi Lee16,

I tried to delete the comrconf.exe, but it changed its name to another file with 8 caracters. right now is called grapvjoy.exe and it has a OCX file also (grapvjoy.ocx)

Uninstall norton and fresh install a new Avast.

as soon as avast finished its scan at boot time, I was really happy, I saw the avast protection on the bottom, but as soon as I put the cursor on top of it, it disappear.

I tried to enable the “service” on the services.msc file but when I clicked on the avast properties it deleted it.

There is another file there that it is loading up a new file again. Neither spyboot, adware, microsoft antispyware, avast & norton couldn´t find it. All of them were fresh downloads with updated libreries.

Here is the new log.

I just read the post from Fishbomb and it seems that what I have on the system is a variation of the HAXDOOR.BGN… I will look for the files that are on his post and see if I can remove them.

Hi emiliano_cabrera,

Remove these from your log

O4 - HKLM..\Run: [Update Network] C:\WINDOWS\system32\grapvjoy.exe
O21 - SSODL: Address Network - {3DEDC2E4-2A85-4104-BA4B-4594B3BC55CC} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpg2html.dll

Then delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32grapvjoy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32mpg2html.dll

Also, what version of norton was you using, norton doesn’t uninstall to well, so i can suggest tools for removal.

Also try opening avast with the icon and scanning again (standard scan with ‘scan inside archives’)

Also try a second opinon at Trend Micro online scan: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

–lee

All OK… systems seems to be clean.

Thank you!!

Avast is now running, as well as the other antispyware… The logo of avast is not on the taskbar but on the task manager it is listed…

I will re-Install a new and fresh version.

Muchas Gracias.
