Unlocker-Is this a trusted program?

Hi

I use this program a long time and I never had any problems with Unlocker, but today xxxx online scanner detected virus in exe file. I immediately sent a file to VT and get the results:

Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/sl/analisis/f5739dbba597af0aa7d3dcc521d8059c1ad4b1d8d5d8e60ee3204ff8feb781ed-1269907241

Anyway I sent this file for analysis and get this reply:

Dear Juninho Slo,

It's not a false positive, Unlocker is bundled with the ADON adware.

Regards

Should i send this to Avast lab?

Thx for your help and have a nice day.

Unlocker is bundled with adware including the ebay shortcut (even though the installer does have the option for you deselect it). I would prefer MBAM with it’s built-in “File Assassin”.

There’s also other alternative tools that Wilders Security mentioned, Lock Hunter and File and Folder Unlocker.

Shame on Unlocker…

Should I send Unlocker.exe file to Avast lab?

Have a nice day.

maybe the virus programmer target the unlucker(unlucky software) ;D for the reason that this is the only software that can delete active element. if the unlocker is in thier control it is easy to corrupt the system of user. so much better to uninstall the unlocker for this time

is file assassin only bundled with mbam or can it b used on it’s own?

Softpedia does list Unlocker as Ad-supported freeware. I suppose it could be considered a PUP then.

It’s available separately, too.

thanx a lot, jahn!!

You’re welcome.

I have been using Unlocker for some considerable time, so I guess my version is older and as such not ad supported, so I would say get an earlier version at say filehippo.com or oldversion.com, etc. I don’t use it very often and certainly haven’t seen any ads.

but unlocker is better than file assassin and it is more flexible, the infected items according to microsoft is only the shortcut into ebay"inside the installer",non of the program main modules is infected

good 4 u! still i wouldn’t use a sw with the slightest tendency in that direction.
could never fully trust it. :frowning:
asyn

what could the one do better than the other…?
only thing i want from such a sw is unlocking, not more, not less.
do u have more infos, as why unlocker is better than fa.?!
thanx 4 posting.

Hi

IE8 blocks this page. How do I handle this problem?

Anyway Mozzila doesnt block the same page.

http://www.UnmaskParasites.com/security-report/?page=ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Thx and have a nice day.

do u mean it’s not a good idea 2 visit that page ???

No, you won’t see ads per se, even in newer versions. It is ad-supported in that the vendor receives compensation for including third party components in the installer (can be unselected). Softpedia’s explanation of their classification is HERE. The unlocker executable only receives one heuristic detection at VirusTotal.

Go to More information and select Disregard and continue. The page is safe.
