Slightest tendency in what direction, from my interpretation of your posts you have little understanding of what Unlocker is, much less how it works.
There really is nothing suspect about it, many applications do deals with other companies, the most common are those giving the ASK toolbar and others. Unlocker in this case has the option for eBay shortcuts, which you can uncheck when you install it (as I have just done with the latest version). I also donāt allow check for updates, very little gets to check for or auto update on my system, one notable exception being avast.
in the anti-privacy direction. sry, ur interpretation isnāt quite correct.
nevertheless, i know u r a person of high knowledge and always try 2 help others.
there4 my highest respect! i had never in mind to annoy uā¦
There is nothing about privacy mentioned anywhere in this topic or any of the associated links, so basically it is the ebay shortcuts which may be considered ad supported (read the Softpedia link about such software) and that part of the program is as I have said user opt-out, so nothing other than the very handy tool.
Your system your choice, but there is nothing sinister about this software.
Then if you donāt want the ebay shortcut bit you could uninstall it, reboot and install Unlocker again, but this time uncheck the ebay option as in my image.
Iām on dial-up, not to mention I want to be in control over what and when things connect.
Too many programs want to check for updates when you first boot/connect (and I donāt know when Unlocker would check, not to mention this isnāt such a volatile program which requires regular updates) that there can be a lot of activity going on when you first connect. On dial-up that can completely tie up your connection.
David, I donāt remember if I suggested or no, but when I was on dial-up Iāve used http://www.czarsoft.com/NetRun.html NetRun a lot.
Although itās a abandoned beta, it is very very stable and allow to control what is running, when it load and connects, etc.
It was a must have for me.
I know the developer and he abandon that project to dedicate to Linux tools.
But it works like a charm
Thanks, though I find it just as easy not to allow check for updates when I install anything (with as I say very few exceptions to that rule), I have worked that way for many years and I donāt find it that much of an inconvenience now.
One App that I didnāt see mentioned in this thread and was NOT in that comparison list, is MoveOnBoot. In addition to Unlocker ⦠MoveOnBoot was suggested / recommended over at Geeks to Go. Anyone here have any experience using MoveOnBoot? If so, how does it stack up against Unlocker and File Assassin?
I noticed on that comparison list that File Assassin had an X in the category of File Delete / Rename.
Does that mean it WONāT delete an Undelete-able / Locked File / Folder? If not, what would be its use?
About 2 weeks ago I had a Folder I couldnāt delete or rename. I had just gotten the suggestion from Geeks to Go to use MoveOnBoot or Unlocker. Lucky for me, I had a last minute idea and it worked. I went and checked the Properties of that Folder. I then simply unchecked the Read Only status of the Folder. Then I was able to delete the Folder Itās weird cuz that is odd. I mean, it makes sense that removing Read Only status would allow me to delete the Folder. But, the Folder then immediately again had Read Only status ⦠and yet now I can rename it anytime I want.
I donāt know why that simply unselecting of the Read Only status on that Folder fixed the problem when the Read Only status is now there again ⦠yet the Folder Renaming capability now works again.
