On my labtop I get a Unmountable Boot Volume Blue screen Error when Windows starts loading. It is a blue screen and says A problem has been detected and Windows has been Shutdown to prevent damage to your computer and has a ***Stop: 0x000000ED(0x85784030, 0xc000009c, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) . It says if the error continues I have to disable Bios and stuff but I really dont know how to do that. Can someone help me threw it step by step to get it fixed. thanks
Do you have avast installed in this computer?
Did you have any other antivirus in this same computer in the past?
0x000000ED: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
The kernel mode I/O subsystem attempted to mount the boot volume and it failed. This error also might occur during an upgrade to Win XP on systems that use higher throughput ATA disks or controllers with incorrect cabling. In some cases, your system might appear to work normally after you restart.

As long as you have knowledge of what’s going on with your pc…their is a resolution in the posted information.
Be very careful in trying what is suggested on your pc without someone to help you please. You need to know what is actually occurring in order to try the suggestions.
Good Luck.
I have Avast, Adaware Se, Hijack this and some other ones on my labtop. I have Windows Xp Home Edition and havent upgraded it. I am not sure what to do with the Resolution from the Microsoft site. The only cables I have is to my battery, 1 phone cord, 1 to my printer and 1 for my digital camera. My Windows stuff is on my Compaq cd with a bunch of other stuff.
Could you overinstall? It can solve the problem and you won’t lose your programs, settings, data, files, etc.
Just choose ‘Repair’ installation of Windows and install ‘over’ the old installation.

You may have to (re)install some applications though, but that would be all.
You will still have all your data.
If you have a backup for your data, it is advised to format and do a clean installation.
I have Compaq System Recovery Cds and 1 Application Recovery cd. When I put the System Recovery 1st one in it goes to a Compaq QuickRestore screen and will wipe everything out. When I put the Application one in it doesnt do anything and goes to the Boot volume error.
Something is messed (infected?) in your MBR (Master Boot Record) or BIOS.
Can you attach this HDD in another computer and fully scan it from there (better if you use an on-line scanner, like Kaspersky).
