unreal tournament 2004

Hello, I cannot get unreal tournament 2004 to access the internet when i start it through steam. I get a message that windows firewall is blocking it. I have turned off windows firewall, since avast has it’s own firewall. Anyone here know how fix this? Any help would be much appreciated. I am running windows 7 64 bit.
