Hello, I ran a smart scan the other day which found two files that couldn’t be put in the virus chest, because they had been ‘modified since the scan’ (not by me).
One is a .asl file (something related to Adobe Photoshop) that had been created that day judging from the filename (2021.08.19.U501.asl) even tho I hadn’t opened photoshop. The other is the system.log file. Does anyone know if there’s anything I can do about these? Thanks!
I don’t have a solution for you but this is what I would try.
Can you add the file to the Virus Chest manually? Just open Avast, go to Virus Chest and Add File…
Can you also try to upload the file to VirusTotal and see how many antivirus detect it? https://www.virustotal.com
Also in macOS, can you go to System Preferences → Security and Privacy → Click Privacy Tab → Automation and check if is there any apps allowed to control other apps (hence control Photoshop).
If none of the above helps, uninstall Photoshop completely and run a Deep Scan with Avast.
Thank you for your help! I could add the asl file to the chest manually, but not the system.log because it recreates itself afterwards. Tried it on virustotal and none of them picked it up, not even avast weirdly, though some couldn’t read it.
I couldn’t see anything under Privacy about Automation so I guess that’s not a problem.
I also can’t seem to do a deep scan, is that a premium feature?

I don't know, the website does not list it as a premium feature.
If you click the "More Scans" button next to the "Run Smart Scan" button, it should display more scan options available:
