Hey guys I don’t post much but visit every week and love the site. My computer has started to have a little freeze while I am on the net so I did a spybot scan and a hijack scan and then when I did the avast scan it came up with 2214 unscanable files. The majority of the files are named,
C:\ Documents and Settings\ All users.…\sb Recovery reg…
some have the above names but at the end there is a number
and some look like this
C:\Documents and settings.…ld_icons buttons_bbar12.13.res
What does all this mean and what do I do.
I have XP professional and my Avast ,Spybot and Hijack are all up to date. Cheers Paul
This has been explained in many other threads.
Please use the search option on this board before asking.
Thanks Eddie,
I did search with 4 results, I still dont understand whats happened, why after I’ve never had avast tell me I have an unscanable file do I suddenly have 2214 of them. Whats happened ?.
Cheers Paul
Many programs (usually security based ones) password protect their files for legitimate reasons such as AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy, there are others.
When you run scans with the above programs and you delete harmful entries that they detect, a copy is kept (in quarantine/restore/backup) in case you need to reverse what you did. These are usually password protected, you should do some housekeeping and delete old backup/recovery/quarantine entries (older than two weeks or so), this will reduce the numbers of files that can’t be scanned.
By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, you can get an idea of what program they relate to.
Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.
Thanks David
No problem, the housekeeping suggested should reduce some of those unscanable files.
