Unwanted DropBox

I just updated Avast to the new version 2014.9.0.2016 through the program.

Lo and behold, after the reboot I find DropBox has also been installed with no warning. I don’t want DropBox. I don’t need DropBox.

I do know enough to watch installation processes, I always use custom installs and read every screen carefully. I never download anything from CNet because of the way they use installation wrappers.

To install an unrelated program WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING is simply unconscionable.

I too updated through GUI & didn’t got Dropbox, lucky me.
Why some users are getting & some not?
Win 7 64

Good question. I did not get drop box but I got NG that did not work??

I don’t have any idea why some people get it, whereas, some people don’t… probably region specific.

Regarding NG… just ignore it.

I didn’t got NG too, lucky me.
NG appears in the rightclick menu, right?

By the way, I have installed only Fileshield & Webshield & nothing else. I dont know if this could be the reason I didn’t got Dropbox & NG.

I just manually updated through the GUI, got the drop box opt out (it was checked by default) screen after the restart. I think Avast is the only software I have used that forces it customers not just to pay attention for piggybacks in its initial install, but also every update.

I appreciate Avast keeping us sharp sarcasm

Only thing I got was a Chrome offer after a reboot but I already have a chromium browser, so no need for another.

I already have Chrome installed so after system restart I got Google Toolbar offer.

Yes, and also users are getting different software offers, some reported they didn’t get any option & additional stuff was installed.

I couldn’t find NG did anything (apart from get ‘blocked’ by Hardened Mode once it ceased to exist). Right-click showed Sandbox options, even when NG was supposedly installed.

On the Dropbox thing: I did see it as an opt-out business on reboot a couple times. Doesn’t appear after a clean install of either Build 2015 or 2016. No indication I have it installed either.

I too was “given” without wanting it the lovely Dropbox plus it stated that I had accepted an invitation from someone in Peru! Am I infected?

OK, that’s why I missed it. My reboot is painfully slow (tired old machine with lots of startup apps) so I generally go make a cup of coffee, feed the cat or whatever while it reboots. Noted for future reference.
