Unwanted quarantine

I just installed STM32CubeIDE v1. from STMicroElectronics and while I was running it Avast pop up and told me to reboot so it could complete the quarantine. This is a valid product I have used for years at work. How do I stop/reverse the quarantine?

Also I am partially color blind and it takes several tries to get the captcha right. Any alternatives? I have poor hearing too.

You don’t say what Avast program and version you are using ?

You should be able to right click on the Avast Tray icon and can open the Quarantine (Virus Chest) from there you should be able to use the Restore and Add Exception. See attached image, click to expand.

Unfortunately the captcha, is there for the first 3 posts as an anti spam measure.

Thanks for the quick and helpful reply.

The version appears to be 21.8.2487 (build 21.8.6586.697), free version. There is no tray icon but I was able to open from start menu. Under quarantine the choices were restore or restore and add exception. I tried the latter but it stated that it could not be restored but it made no mention of whether the exception was added. The start menu entry was deleted as well as the desktop shortcut were also deleted. But I was able to start it again from the install directory. Perhaps the exception was created as it seems to be running again at the moment. I cannot find a list of exceptions.

At least I learned am now partially color blind, my wife was able to pick it out fine and her vision is 20/100…

Thanks again,
John

You’re welcome.

There should be an Avast tray icon by default (see attached image) unless you did something to move it ?
Check the Windows Hidden icon area the up arrow (chevron) in my attached image, is it there ?

If it isn’t there and you didn’t move it there is something wrong with your installation.
Try an Avast Repair (open from the Start Menu as you did before) :
AvastUI > Menu > Settings > General > Troubleshooting > APP Repair - Restart after completion.

EDIT Attached image.

The tray icon was not hidden but the repair restored it. I think it is an accolade for Avast that it works well enough it can be a hidden icon.

Three questions remain:
If the restore and create exception fails because it cannot restore has the exception been created?

Is there a way to create an exception beforehand?

Is there a viewable exception list?

Best regards,
John

  1. I would guess not (if one part fails I would think the other would fail or rollback), but the only to confirm would be to check the Exclusions list in the UI, Menu > settings > General > Exceptions.

2 & 3 - from the same area. See attached image.

However, since you have done the Repair and restart, was this extract and add exclusion done after that ?
