I use AOL for my E-mail & FireFox for most other use, but i notice that the Avast updates only load when i’m on AOL. No big deal but wondering why? Oh i have a DSL line.
Your internet connection is through AOHell, then is shouldn’t matter what you are doing, avast periodically checks to see if you are connected to the internet and if so will check for updates. avast doesn’t require you to be using any particular browser, etc.
Check your Program Settings, Update (Connections) and ensure that your connection type is reflected in the choice ‘My computer is permanently connected to the Internet.’
Do you connect to AOHell through a proxy ?
If so you will need to enter the Proxy settings using the Proxy button on that Update (Connections) page.
Sorry I’m not too sharp on this stuff, my dsl conection is tru AT&T.When i get on in the morning and go to firefox for say 10 min then go to aol , then the avast update box pops up so it seem’s like i need to be on aol for the update. I’m 72 and just started playing with these PC’s 6 years ago so again I’m sorry i don’t understand a lot of this. Anyway I’ll just go to aol first when i start up-NO Big deal.

OK just saw in FAQ how to change connection , was still as connect to dialup. changed it and will see if that does it.
