Update at startup doesn't work with proxy

As my laptop works at work with a proxy:

Internet Properties → Connections → LAN Settings → Use automatic configuration script → “http://proxy…”

and at home without (the same configuration as mentioned above; it isn’t necessary to change it), the configuration of avast! looks like this:

Proxy server configuration → Auto detection (use Internet Explorer Configuration)

As I test the configuration by pressing the appropriate button, I pass the test: “Proxy server configuration is correct.”

Nevertheless: at startup, the server cannot be reached, as the summery says following:

Information about this update:
Last occured error: Server download5.avast.com (66.98.196.85:80) cannot be reached.

At home, where I directly connect to the internet (and I don’t change the internet connection configuration!!) the auto update works fine!

For the technical people: the relevant part in my avast4.ini says:

VPSUpdate=Automatic
ProgramUpdate=Automatic
LoggingLevel=5
NetAlert=
ProxySettings=Autodetect
ProxyAddress=
ProxyPort=0

Anybode knows how this can be corrected, so that the automatical updates take place also at work?

Thank you in advance!

palbertsma,

Firstly, it sounds as if you are trying to use HOME version at work which violates the agreement with Avast.

Secondly, at work, you are on a network and Home will not function. It requires the Server edition which is not free.

Thirdly, if Avat is configured properly…with or without Proxy, it works just dandy.

Techie 101,

To respond:

  1. I work on my laptop at home, and only connect at work to synchronise.

  2. The work configuration doesn’t interfere with my configuration; when I update manually, it works fine. I think that is because in that case no other port is used, as with the automatic update somehow port 80 is used. So I think the solution is to force avast! NOT to use port 80 when updating automatically!

  3. See my suggestion under 2.

So, in short: who knows how to force avast! NOT to use port 80 during automatical update, but to update without this port option, or to update with an option to fill in the port number yourself?

Palbertsma, I use a proxy filter too but I do not have trouble to update through port 80.
I’m curious and will wait the answer for your question 8)
