Hello, need some help please
I have Internet security 8 installed. Yesterday it invited me to do a software update to version 9; so I started the update. It was rather slow but it eventually got to about 98% and just stopped. I waited but it just said ‘downloading’…
So I rebooted the PC, got the avast splash screen.
Now it’s warning me that virus definitions can’t be updated? so looking at the maintainance panel it says again that there is a software update to 9, clicking this again it says Updating… STEP 1/3 Initializing please wait… and the progress bar does not move at all, same with virus def updater as well.
My System win 7 64 bit
Avast Prog version 8.0.1500
Tried uninstalling avast from program manager and get an error.
Is my install broken? any solutions here? anyone else have this?

try to repair avast install from Ad/remove programs > uninstall and repair option
if no go try a new clean install
go to www.avast.com > support > downloads > uninstall utility … follow instructions an run for all versions ever installed and reboot
then try a new install
report back…

Thanks for the reply
When I try and uninstall/repair I get an aswRunDll.exe application error
Let’s hope the uninstall utility works?? will it be able to remove a broken install?
Do I need to first run the utility in safe mode first, or can this be run directly from windows?
