Update Error Home Version 4.8

Can someone please help me figure out what setting I need to change to get my Avast to update automatically. I have been reading some of the other posts here and have taken a look at all my settings and see nothing that would make the following error occur:

Last encountered error: cannot connect to download213.avast.com (75.126.203.71:80).

That is the message that I receive when I click on the red box on the right side when it fails to update. I have double checked the settings…figuring again from other posts that maybe I was operating under a proxy and I am not. When I do a force manual update it updates fine it just will NOT update on it’s own. Normally this would be OK…but this PC gets a lot of traffic from hubby and kids…so I want to be sure that it is protected. Please let me know what I can do to correct this. ???

Please, post the last 200-250 lines of avast log: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log

Also check:

  1. If your subscription allows the update right now (i.e., if it is not expired). Home (free) version need registering each 14 months.

  2. If your firewall settings and allow avast.setup to connect.
    If you’re not sure, just turn off your firewall (to be sure the update failure is not due to it).
    Maybe you should ‘remove’ avast.setup entry, try to update, receiving a new alert from the firewall, allowing it and checking it to remember.

  3. Check your proxy settings into avast!:
    Left click the avast icon > Settings
    Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy
    Make sure your browser is not set to “Work Offline” (this option is generally in the File menu).
    If it doesn’t help, try switching from “Auto-detect” to “No proxy” (I’m assuming you’re not connecting to the Internet via proxy).

In answer to your help…

  1. this is a new subscription installed maybe a week ago…so I know that the subscription hasn’t run out.

  2. I deleted the avast.setup from the firewall and will see if that helps.

  3. i changed the proxy settings to “no proxy” will see if that helps too.

probably I’m wrong, but for me it seems as if it would work! (i cant see any problems in the log) ???

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

Just by the way … the log shows that the change to “No proxy” was not made.
