update error

whenever my system trys to auto update now I get this message:

Last encountered error: The system cannot find the file specified.

Any suggestions??

What is trying to update? Windows, Avast?
What OS?
What version of Avast?
Does it say what file can’t be found?

What is trying to update? Windows, Avast? - Avast
What OS? - Windows XP
What version of Avast? - 4.6 Home Edition
Does it say what file can’t be found? - Here is all I got from the log files:

3/7/2005 5:08:04 PM SYSTEM 2036 An error has occured while attempting to update. Please check the logs.
3/7/2005 5:08:04 PM SYSTEM 2036 Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. Return code is 0x00000002, dwRes is 00000002.

Change Database=ODBC to Database=XML in avast4.ini and see if it solves the problem.

I don’t think this has anything to do with storage type.
Do you use any kind of firewall maybe? If yes, is avast.setup allowed to access the network?

OK I changed Database=ODBC to Database=XML and I am still getting the same error, so maybe it is a firewall issue, but I can’t find avast.setup anywhere in the Avast directory. I am using a Linksys router and Windows XP Firewall. Is the file I need to grant access to called “aswUpdSv.exe”? Do I need to open any ports on my router for the update service or just tell Windows Firewall to allow access? Thanks!

You won’t find it in a directory, it is created at the time of update and removed after.

Try a manual update of either iAVS or program, your firewall should ask for permission for avast.setup to access the Internet, allow it.
