The current version is 0627-3, if the about avast is showing this one it would appear to be OK.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this. If there is anything corrupt, hopefully that should resolve it.

You could also do a manual update of the iAVS (virus signatures), right click the avast a icon, Updating, iAVS Update.
