Since upgrading to new avast! v 4.7 I’ve noticed that the update icon hasn’t shown at notification area (Windows XP SP2) as it used to be when avast! performs an automatic update, in fact, this problem has appeared since I used avast! 4.7 beta.
I have seen the update icon appearing in the tray and then the popup to report an update to the avast signature file during the beta test of 4.7.
The icon has traditionally appeared as avast was checking for an update. There was a suggestion put forward that the icon should only be displayed when an update was in process (rather than just checking for an update).
I used to see the icon on every startup as avast was performing the check, I no longer see it now so it may well be that the proposal has been implemented. I am sure someone from the team will let us know.
The icon is there even for auto updates, but only if actually downloading an update!
That is, if it’s only CHECKING IF there’s anything new (and there isn’t, in fact), then the icon is not displayed anymore.
This is by design, and was requested by a number of users here…
I think it makes more sense this way (the icon is now really an indication that an update is taking place - which can be quite helpful e.g. for GPRS users).
