I see someone else had this problem but I really didn’t see a solution, I am getting updates but not message indicating it. thanks for any respond.
Do you mean the audible notice or the update notification pop-up ?
I’m getting the update notification pop-up (right click the avast tray icon, Show last popup message), but I can’t recall hearing an audible notice, but I wasn’t at my computer.
thanks, thats what I’m talking about the update notification pop-up, when I right click it grey out and unclickable
It will be grey if A) you haven’t received an update (or other pop-up), B) you have done a manual update check or C) if you have rebooted.
Or finally if you have avast set to Silent/Gaming mode or are running a full screen application, you won’t receive pop-ups.

Hi ronnycopeh, I’m having the exact same problem.
I’m still running version 7 free and there is no sound there either on defination updates. The update popup still has the wrong version on it.

About 6 hours ago I did a clean install of Avast and went from version 7 to 8 on my desktop and one VM and the sound for updates works OK now.

Did a registry clean and all is back to normal, the right click “show last popup message” not greyed out and clickable again, thanks for all the help.
What did you use to clean the registry?
CCCleaner, and now its working.
